SHI Jiuyong was Judge (1994-2010), Vice-President
(2000-2003), President (2003-2006) of the International Court of Justice.
Previously, he was member (1987-1993), Chairman (1990) of the International Law
Commission. He has been Professor and Senior Research Fellow at universities
and research institutes in Beijing. He was Legal Adviser (1980-1993) to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peoples Republic of China. He is at present
President of the Curatorium of the Xiamen Academy of
International Law, China, and Honorary President of the Chinese Society of
International Law.
Judge Shi was the recipient of the Wang Tieya
Prize from the Chinese Journal of International Law and Wuhan University
Institute of International Law, 2010.
In 2018, Judge Shi was named by China as one of the 100
persons who have made the most important contributions to the reform and
opening-up of China since 1978.
